Pensés d'abord pour atténuer le décrochage entre la lunette arrière et le pavillon, ils sont aussi une géniale invention en terme de sécurité. L'une des manières les plus 'simples' de distinguer une DS d'une ID consiste à vérifier si les cornets sont en aluminium ou en plastique. La chose est en vérité plus complexe, puisque si les toutes premiers prototype de DS arboraient des cornets en inox, ce ne fut pas le cas des premiers millésimes de série, équipées d'élégant cornets transparents, de couleur rouge, avec un fin filet chromé sur son extrémité. Aussi, au fil des ans, seules les versions les plus dépouillées (D Spécial en l'occurrence) arboraient des cornets de clignotant de couleur noire.
