These rear fender reflectors are of rare elegance, and specific to the 1st generation DS. They're not the very first, however, since the first retro-reflectors - if they had the same shape - had a kind of reflective strip on their side. From May 1958 onwards, DS cars were equipped with the model you see here, until August 1959. With the switch to 'long' fenders, DS and ID models were then fitted with a smaller reflector, integrated into the rear fender, until the end of production (except for Pallas). If you're interested in the subject, I invite you once again to consult Doctor Danche's brilliant 'Nuancier des DS' ;).

See in its original language (French) : Ces catadioptres d'aile arrière sont d'une élégance rare, et spécifiques aux 1ère générations de DS. Il ne s'agit pas cependant des tous premiers, puisque les premiers catadioptres -si arborant la même forme- avaient une sorte de bandeau réfléchissant sur leur coté. C'est à partir de mai 1958 que les DS seront équipées de le modèle que vous voyez ici, et ce jusqu'à août 1959. Avec le passage aux ailes dites 'longues', les DS et ID seront alors équipées d'un catadioptre de plus petites dimensions, intégré dans l'aile arrière, jusqu'à la fin de production du modèle (hormis Pallas).
