In 1993, in keeping with tradition, Peugeot launched a sporty version of the 306, the S16 (or GTI, as it is known in some countries, such as Switzerland and Spain). The engine, taken from the 405 Mi16 phase 2, developed 155 hp DIN the first year, then lost 5 hp the following year, in order to meet anti-pollution standards.
