As early as the mid-60s, some (mainly French) vehicles were equipped with innovative headlamp lenses featuring a double reflector. As the additional reflector was placed at the base of the main reflector, they were nicknamed 'kangaroo' headlamps. These are in fact 'bi-iodes' headlights, with two separate iodine bulbs, each with its own housing. The second reflector took on the role of long-range reflector. This rather judicious system made it possible to equip a vehicle with powerful headlights, without spoiling the car's look. However, it was quickly abandoned, probably due to the effectiveness of H4 bulbs (introduced in 1971), and the fact that more and more manufacturers were equipping their vehicles with integrated long-range lenses. Their effectiveness was also sometimes questioned. Finding them in 'New Old Stock' these days is quite unusual!
