In 1983, Renault broke new ground with the R11 TSE Electronic. A truly experimental model, packed with gadgets, some of which would be widely adopted by all carmakers, many years later. These included the 'speech synthesizer' (a world first, stealing the show from the Austin Maestro ;)), the overspeed warning system, the steering-wheel-controlled hi-fi system, and of course the all-electronic speedometer, with the exception - strangely enough - of the trip and odometer. There were two distinct versions, and this one corresponds to the first pre-1986 vintages (the second versions, on a black background, are supposed to be more heat-resistant). Pixels are fragile, and do not stand up well over time. The problem is generally repairable, and don't hesitate to contact us for advice.
