Spécialiste entre autres dans la fabrication de carburateurs, pratiquement tous les constructeurs européens en équiperont leurs modèles, et pour toute sorte de cylindrée. C'est à partir de la fin des années 70 que l'engouement pour cette solution technique ralentira, au profit des systèmes d'injection, plus précis et moins polluant. La marque Solex a fait l'objet de multiples fusion-acquisitions depuis cette époque. Elle existe cependant toujours, en particulier dans la fabrication de solutions de locomotion électriques (E-Solex notamment).
