Amplilux' headlamps are relatively common on second-generation DS models (along with under-glass headlamps), but have actually been around since the early 60s. They were offered as accessories rather than standard equipment. Many Peugeots, Simcas and DS/IDs were already equipped with them. In a way, they were a '2-in-1' headlamp with double casing, also known as a 'Kangaroo headlamp'. This French technology was gradually abandoned towards the end of the 70s, in favor of long-range headlamps, and the democratization of H4-type halogen headlamps, much more efficient than the previous technology.
